I’ve been meaning to recommend some good blogs and websites that cater to obscure information for a while, so I figured I’d do it now.
Endangered Ugly Things is a great blog, the goal of which is “to promote awareness of all things both rare and repulsive.” In a roundabout way, it was the inspiration for this blog, in that it inspired a discarded blog idea that eventually evolved into this.
I discovered Neatorama more recently, while researching for a presentation on crosswords I was going to give. Lots of random information, including plenty of current events. Good Stuff.
The Straight Dope is another good one. You may have noticed I used it as a source in my “Something to Warm the Heart” post.
Wikipedia is always fun, if not entirely reliable (as if you didn’t know.)
Finally, for all you language gurus out there, there’s World Wide Words. I particularly like the Weird Word section.
Finally (for real this time,) there’s Project Gutenberg. Free books on the internet! How isn’t that awesome?
PS
Also related to the aforementioned “Something to Warm the Heart” post is this article my sweetheart emailed me from Slate.com all about how the windchill factor is nonsense. I never thought the subject could be so exhaustively covered, honestly.
I loved that article from Slate, too. I have yet to check out the recommended sites, but I will be.
